He said the peace which Ghanaians have enjoyed under the NPP administration over the years should be maintained and carried into the future.
Speaking to The Statesman at the weekend, Mr.Asare-Lartey urged NDC supporters to comport themselves while celebrating their victory, reminding them that without peace an NDC government under the leadership of John Evans Atta Mills, would not find it easy to rule the country.
He said Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo had already congratulated Professor Mills, adding that it was left for the NDC and its supporters to reciprocate Nana Addo's gesture and avoid all provocative acts that could inflame passion
He noted that in every election there is bound to be a winner and a looser; but said the out-come should not be used as a yard stick to create unnecessary tension.
Mr.Asare-Lartey declared that what was important was for all the parties and their followers to join hands and see how best they would contribute towards the development of the country
He said the question of who won and who lost the elections should not engage the minds of Ghanaians, now that everything was over, stressing that what all Ghanaians must look for is national cohesion that would move the country forward.
He appealed to NPP supporters to put the past behind them, avoid any blame game and unite efforts towards the future, while stressing that the future still looked bright.
He expressing optimism that victory would be theirs in the next elections, and encouraged the party to go back to the drawing board, identify the mistakes and make amends.
He declared, "NPP put up a good fight, but the opponents were too hot to handle.'
He said NPP needed to put its house in order, pointing out that, in a competitive election nothing should be taken for granted.
