Zoomlion Ghana Limited - an environment oriented company - has embarked on a clean-up exercise towards the handing over of the baton of state by President John A Kufuor to John E.A. Mills tomorrow, January 7.
Addressing the media during the clean-up exercise at the Independence Square in Accra Sunday, the Accra Zonal Supervisor of the company, Robert Coleman, indicated that the objective was to ensure a clean environment for the all-important ceremony that was going to attract a lot of foreign dignitaries.
Mr. Coleman noted that as a result of the Christmas festivities and the massive protests that took place during the just-ended elections, a lot of garbage had been scattered in some parts of
Zoomlion has therefore deployed 80 people to paint the city as well, especially the Independence Square.
He also used the platform to emphasise that Zoomlion Ghana Limited is solely a private-owned entity with its affiliation in China, which has no connection with any political party.
He maintained that Zoomlion is there to safeguard the interest of this nation and that it was prepared to work with every government, adding that not only did they support the NPP government in the Youth Employment Programme, but had worked hand-in-hand with companies through cleaning and supply of garbage containers.
With the change of government, he gave the assurance that his outfit was still going to continue the same work they had been doing in the previous years to support the in-coming government's vision on sanitation in order to move the country forward.
Mr. Coleman further appealed to Ghanaians to change their attitude towards sanitation in the country, reminding everybody of the sanitation courts in the country which core business is to prosecute people who commit sanitation-related offences.
