Mahatma Spoils Kotoko's Party
Black Starlets striker, Mahatma Otoo, last Sunday emerged the proud killer of mighty Kumasi Asante Kotoko when his goal gave his side a 2-1, their first since the league began this year.
The youngster who established himself last season as the leading hitman for Saint Mirren through out the Zonal league and the Middle League, scoring a total of 12 goals, was part of the drama that handed Kotoko with their first home defeat this season.
Otoo headed home the winner from an obsure position when he was caught between two Kotoko defenders, beating goalkeeper Nii Baah in post to the surprise of the Kotoko fans at the Ohene Djan Stadium.
Incidentally, it was Kotoko who drew the first blood when they benefited from an own goal scored on the 29th minute when a tense defender of Mirren deflected the ball into his own net.
A brilliant free-kick delivered outside the box of Kotoko by Mirren's Solomon zoomed into the net, leaving goalkeeper Nii Baah out of contention.
For Mahatma, last Sunday's victory not only marked their giant killing feat, but also gave him his second goal after four matches and the needed confidence to compete with the big boys.
He scored his first goal this season against Wa All Stars at the Ohene Djan Stadium in a match which the newly promoted side saw their lead cancelled.
Until last Sunday Mirren were battered by all their opponents, and a victory in the first round appeared so remote, and indeed all pre-match predictions made Mirren the underdogs.
