'We'll Promote Private Sector'

Ms Hannah Tetteh
The  in-coming government has assured the business community and the private sector of its commitment to help the sector to grow.

Ms Hannah Tetteh — the spokesperson for Prof. Mills's Transitional Team — said the government of the National Democratic Congress would do nothing untoward to jeopardise any business concerns irrespective of their political affiliations.

Speaking at a cocktail organised by a section of the business community to fraternise with the President-elect at the weekend, Ms Tetteh assured them of the safety of their businesses under the presidency of Prof. Mills, adding that the NDC leadership would not engage in witch-hunting of any businessman or woman.

Some of the party's bigwigs and prominent businessmen and women attended the cocktail.

The government of the NDC, which handed over power in 2000 having ruled since 1992, had lived under the tag that it did not like the private sector.

According to Ms Tetteh, it was the pledge of the in-coming government to help the private sector to expand, thereby creating jobs for Ghanaians.

She said once the struggle for power was over, there was the need for work to start in earnest without hesitation in building a better Ghana.

Some businessmen who gathered at the cocktail used the forum to express their satisfaction and belief in the Atta Mills-led administration and excitement over the assurance to promote the private sector.

To them, it was refreshing as some of them harboured the fear that the government of the NDC would persecute and engage in political vendetta.

“We believe that Prof. Mills will deliver on his manifesto and now that we have received a double assurance from the party leadership, we can only hope and pray that the party stand firm in its assurance so that together we can build a better Ghana,” one businessman told the Daily Graphic.
