There has been an uneasy calm in the
Tema Metropolis since Monday as the electorate waited anxiously
for the Electoral Commission (EC) to announce the winner of
Sunday's presidential runoff polls.
While some residents were glued to their radio sets to
monitor the situation, others went about their normal businesses with
mobile phones and radio sets in their hands, an indication that they
were eager to know the winner.
The situation at Community One Site One has changed
from the jubilant mood on Monday to a sober atmosphere as the
electorate were no longer sure if their favourite party would be
declared winner.
A day after the polls, some residents of Site One
including children as well as some traders at the Tema main market
wore tee-shirts and hoisted flags of the National Democratic
Congress (NDC) in anticipation of victory.
They danced to party's songs and made the signs of
change as some drivers also tooted their horns.
On Tuesday morning, however, Ghana News Agency
observed that there was free flow of traffic at the central area and
there were no tooting of horns, any jubilation on the streets, with
supporters of both parties calmly awaiting the results.
A number of people the GNA spoke to called on the two political
parties to exercise restraint and allow the EC to come out with the
correct results in order to avoid confusion in the country.
They advised that the defeated party in the election should
concede defeat in good faith.
