A 27-year-old driver, who stole two mobile phones worth GH¢21,000, has been sentenced to five years imprisonment in hard labour by the Juaso Circuit Court.

Yaw Owusu, alias commander, who pleaded not guilty to two counts of stealing and unlawful entry, was convicted after a seven-month trial presided over by Mr Jacob Boon.

Police Chief Inspector Kippo Iddrisu Mahama, who presented the facts of the case, said the complainant George Kwaku Ofori is a businessman in Accra but a native in Pra River near Breku while the accused also resided in the same town.

He said on May 5, 2008 around 1000 hours the complainant, who was seeing off some friends after a visit left his two mobile phones in a chair he was sitting on in his house.

According to the prosecutor, Owusu seized the opportunity and scaled the fence wall of the house and picked the phones,

Meanwhile, a nephew of the complainant spotted Owusu and raised the alarm. Owusu sensing danger jumped over the fence wall again but one of the phones fell in the process.

` He was pursued and arrested in a nearby bush where the other phone was retrieved after which he was handed over to the police. After police investigations, he was charged with the offences and arraigned.
