Some residents in Bekwai say they are afraid for their lives as they go to the polls in next Sunday's presidential and parliamentary elections.

They say the recent clashes between supporters of the incumbent MP who is also the NPP parliamentary candidate, Kofi Poku-Adusei, and an independent, Joe Osei-Wusu, have the potential to escalate on Election Day.

One person was wounded while a vehicle belonging to the MP was set ablaze last week following a clash between his supporters and those of the former Chief Executive of the DVLA.

According to Nhyira FM'S Ohemeng Tawiah who visited the area days after the incident, many of the people want security beefed up ahead of Sunday's polls.

But the District Police Commander, DSP Felix Cosmos, has asked the people to remain calm.

He said comprehensive security arrangements have been made to deal with any outbreak of violence. He also appealed to residents to be law abiding during and after the elections.

He assured that all is set for Sunday's elections.
