The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has organised a prayer and songs ministration session at the Independence Square to seek God's intervention for the peaceful conduct of the forthcoming presidential and parliamentary elections.
In attendance were the party's presidential candidate, Professor John Evans Atta Mills and his running mate, Mr John Dramani Mahama, as well as members of the party's campaign team.
For more than two hours, supporters of the party who thronged the square clad in apparels made of the party's colours danced to gospel music and jingles of the NDC.
Preaching the sermon, Reverend Vaglas Kanko, who is the Leader and Founder of the Lord's Vineyard Ministry, assured Ghanaians of peaceful elections on Sunday and called on them to have faith in God.
“God is the one who chooses and enthrones a king”, he said, adding that “at the end of the day God will choose someone he has ordained”.
He said since the decision to make someone a president did not lie in the hands of mortal men, Ghanaians had no business fighting over who won the elections.
“Our only business is to go to the polling stations to vote for whoever we want and God in His own wisdom will choose the president and the victory will be for all Ghana”, he said.
Rev. Kanko used the occasion to pray for the officials of the Electoral Commission, Prof. Mills and his running mate, and the other presidential candidates.
For his part, Mr Mahama called on Ghanaians to think first about Ghana and refrain from all acts that would plunge the country into chaos.
In a brief remark, Prof. Mills said the prayer session was a testimony to the fact that no nation could progress without the acknowledgement of God and thanked pastors who accepted the invitation to attend the event.
He noted that God would not make Ghana great and strong unless Ghanaians obeyed His command, and called for truth and faithfulness to prevail in the Ghanaian society.
