The Ghana Water Company (GWC)
is working feverishly to replace one of the pumps at Barekese Dam, which blasted on Friday creating a severe water shortage in the metropolis.

The Barekese dam is the main supplier of water to the city, distributing about 14-16 gallons of water to end users.

Speaking to the GNA on the cause of the water shortage that has hit part of the city since last Friday, Mr. Haruna Asoga, the Public Relations Officer (PRO), said the unexpected blast of the pump affected the main delivery pipes which distribute water to the end users.

He said finding a replacement immediately was a problem and with the general elections just a few days away, his outfit has successfully improvised for replacement.

Mr. Asoga said the improvised pump is now being fitted and assured the public that if all goes well, water will be flowing by tomorrow (Tuesday) morning. Over the weekend, residents in the metropolis looking desperate trekked distances away from their houses in search of water.
