The chief and people of New Adiembra in the Ellembele District of the Western Region have called for the provision of a strong security in the area during the general election.

They alleged that there were some unscrupulous people in the area who have been causing unrest since the political campaigns started, and suspected that these people may cause mayhem on election day, if strong security was not provided.

Nana Yeboah, chief of New Adiembra and his elders made the urgent call when the District Chief Executive (DCE) for the area, Mr Saeed Abdul Rahman Yankey, called on him during a familiarisation visit to some isolated communities in the district.

They urged the DCE to facilitate measures to ensure peaceful election in the area.

Nana Yeboah noted that the provision of adequate security would encourage the voters to come out to vote without any fear of harassment and intimidation.

Mr Yankey, responding, assured the chief and his people that the District Elections Security Taskforce has put in place measures that would ensure that people cast their votes peacefully.

He appealed to supporters of the various political parties to exercise tolerance and avoid using offensive language against their political opponents during campaigns.

The communities the DCE toured include Asemaso, Bonsukrom, Baseke No.2 Ewetreku, Aidoosuazo, Agyebenkrom, Mantukwa and Kwasikrom, all predominantly cocoa farming areas.
