> Arrest And Prosecute Mobila's Killers - CPP

The Northern Regional branch of the Convention People's Party (CPP) has entreated President Kufuor to facilitate the arrest of all perpetrators of the murder of Alhaji Issah Mobila, a former regional chairman of the party.

The CPP further appealed to the President to protect and guarantee the personal security and safety of Alhaji Ibrahim Mahama, who is currently in exile.

The party also said the “bizarre circumstances under which the two leading members of the CPP were treated were against the spirit of our constitution”.

“Your Excellency would agree that in this current political dispensation such an act needed to be condemned by all minds, especially those in authority who have the responsibility to nurture our democracy into one that would bring hope to the ordinary man in the street.", a statement by the party said.

“It is quite clear, Your Excellency, that Alhaji Ibrahim Mahama's fundamental human rights have been invaded and his stay in exile since December 11, 2004 is not only degrading but attacks his dignity as a citizen who has always fought for the good of his country”, the statement said.

It further alleged that the ministers of Defence and Justice had both lied to parliament and the public regarding the actions they were taking or had taken to give justice to Alhaji Mobila.

“It will do your government a lot of good if action is taken now to arrest and bring to justice the planners of the murder and the murderers of Alhaji Issah Mobila, or failure to do so will do your government and Your Excellency incalculable harm either now or in the near future”.

“if our senior brother, colleague, and leader, Ibrahim Mahama's, protection and safety are guaranteed by your government and he returns that will change public perception about the fact that the invaders of his house in the early hours of December 11, 2004 were agents of your government”.

The late Alhaji Mobila is said to have surrendered himself to the police in Tamale upon hearing from some associates that he was wanted by the police.

The regional chairman was, however, allegedly handed over to the 6 Battalion of Infantry where he met his untimely death.

In the case of Alhaji Mahama, some armed men reported to be wearing military uniforms allegedly stormed his residence and some criminal charges were subsequently levelled against him, forcing him into exile.
