Barely five days after the accident at Twemea Nkwanta, near Techiman in which 21 people died, nine more lives have been lost in another crash at Ayinamsi Number Two near Nkawie in Ashanti.

This time, it involved a splinter bus and a mini-bus.

The scene of the accident was pathetic as dead bodies, some with their heads and limbs chopped off were recovered with axes and other hard implements from the mangled vehicles.

The splinter bus with registration number AW 2060 Y, was carrying 27 passengers while 33 passengers were on board the mini-bus number GT 2265 F.

It is feared that the death toll might rise as most of the injured on admission at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) were said to be in critical condition.

Nkawie District Police Commander ASP Peter Ofori-Donkor confirmed the incident to the Times and said they were investigating the cause.

An eye-witness, a national service person, told the Times that the splinter bus was heading towards Kumasi from Bibiani while the mini-bus was on its way to Sefwi-Akontombra.

According to the eye-witness, the mini-bus attempted overtaking some vehicles ahead when it came face to face with the splinter bus.
