576 students last Saturday graduated from the Central University College (CUC), after four years of study of various programmes, at the University's 7th Graduation ceremony, which also marks the 10th Anniversary of the University.

In all, 41 students obtained first class honours in BSc. (Agribusiness Management), BSc. Management Studies, BSc. Banking & Finance, BSc. Admin. (Accounting), BSc. Admin. (Human Resource Management), BSc. Marketing and BA (Theology).

274 obtained second class upper, 203 had second class lower, and the rest acquired third class and below.

19 academic awards were presented to deserving students. Mrs. Elisabeth Apori-Obeng swept three different awards, including, overall best female student, overall best student in theology, and the overall best student in Exegetical Theology.

Mrs. Apori-Obeng also emerged the overall best student for the 2007/2008 academic year, and walked home with a GH¢1,700 laptop computer as her prize.

Several hundreds of people, including parents, guardians, friends and relations of graduating students, thronged the Miotso campus of the University College near Dawenya, to witness the grand occasion, the first to be held at the new campus.

Dr. Mensah Otabil, Chancellor of the University College, advised the fresh graduates not to despise little beginnings, because all great things in life start small.

Dr. Otabil further advised the newly-passed out students, to always dream big, and even though they have to start from somewhere, they should never stay small, in order to grow and establish themselves in a great and endearing manner.

President of the University College, Prof. V. P. Y. Gadzekpo, revealed that the CUC had contributed tremendously to the economy, by creating opportunities for many, who otherwise would not have had access to university education.

He noted that workers, who by the nature of their jobs could not access University education, were now able to do so without any difficulty, as a result of the opportunities created for them by the University College.

Prof. Gadzekpo observed that one of the visions of good education was to inculcate good moral values into the students, in addition to the academic knowledge, as well as the values of faith, integrity and excellence, stressing that “CUC graduates have been well prepared for the job market, and would fit well into any working environment.”

Ms. Joyce Aryee, Chairperson of the Board of Regents of the University College, called on the out-going graduates to be worthy ambassadors of the University College, not only in the job market, but also in all spheres of life.
