NPP vice presidential candidate Mahamudu Bawumia, says the only reason he accepted to join the ticket of the NPP presidential candidate is to contribute his quota to the development of the people of Ghana and also to see a significant change in the lives of the people of the north.

Dr Bawumia made it clear that he did not leave the Bank of Ghana just to be a politician, adding that, he sees this nomination as a call to serve mother Ghana.

Speaking during his second day tour of the Upper East Region with his entourage comprising some party officials, the number two man of the NPP visited some constituencies to canvass for votes for the parliamentary candidates.

At the Yagaba/Kubori area, which is popularly known as 'overseas,' Dr Bawumia decried the poor state of development in the area and  promised to help make the area the bread basket of the northern regions, if the NPP gets the nod to lead the country come December 7.

In the Builsa South constituency, Dr Bawumia noted that his call to service is the responsibility of all northerners and urged  them to help make his administration a success.

"I accepted the call because of you. So help me succeed because my success is your success and so are my failures.'

Dr Bawumia was unhappy with the levels of poverty in the north. 'The levels of poverty are unacceptable. We must eliminate poverty by all means.'

He added that an Akufo-Addo led government will set up a shea butter board that will manage it as pertains for cocoa and coffee.

Also on the tour was Jake Obetsebi-Lamptey, Campaign Chairman of the Akufo-Addo for President 08 team.

He noted that Dr Bawumia"s selection as the vice presidential candidate of the party should inspire all northerners that it is possible to develop the area.
