Alfred Agbesi Member of Parliament for Ashaiman has commended the government for constructing roads in the constituency, including the Afariwa-New Town road.

Speaking to newsmen during an inspection of the projects, Mr Agbesi, on behalf of the people of Afariwa and Ashaiman New Town extended their heartfelt gratitude to the Sector Minister of Transport, Dr Richard Anane, for a good work done so far with regard to the building of roads in Ashaiman.

He noted that in June 2006, the Urban Roads Department, in conjunction with the Tema Metropolitan Assembly, awarded the Official Town-Afariwa-New Town – Jericho roads on contract and the project is in progress with the New Town portion of it partially tarred.

Mr Agbesi also called on government to give special attention to Ashaiman which has over 50 ethnic and tribal groupings and is now designated as a municipality.

He said more than 150,000 inhabitants have only a clinic built over 30 years ago, and a day senior high school with basically no recreational facilities.

We urgently appeal to Dr Anane to ensure that the rest of the works should also see the light of the day.

The MP also appealed to the Minister of Water Resources, Works and Housing to see to the abandoned work on the dredging of the Gbemi-Sakumono stream and the construction of storm drains at Middle East, Lebanon and the big drain at Zone 5 Lebanon.
