The ruling New Patriotic Party has welcomed the defection of the former First Vice Chairperson of the Democratic Freedom Party, Frances Essiam as a good development for Nana Akufo-Addo's campaign.

Essiam quit the DFP on October 15 and last week announced she was joining the Nana Addo team to campaign for him since he has all the credentials to be the next President of Ghana and also espouses the best programmes for Ghana's development.

And Arthur Kobina Kennedy, Nana Addo's Communications Director has told Joy FM such a high profile defection goes to show the strength of the NPP, and hopes Madam Essiam would bring on board her rich political experience and also encourage other defections to the NPP.

“Politics is about numbers so whenever you get people joining you it's a good thing. In addition to that this has been somebody who has been a leading member of the NDC who joined another opposition party before coming to join us so obviously she is not just anybody. She's somebody who is skilled and experienced in politics therefore her judgment should matter a lot to those in the public who are inclined to the NDC and other parties.

“So we think her example will lead to a lot of them following her and the best thing is that it gives us reassurance that we are doing something right in the campaign we are running and we hope that more people will follow her example so that we can win a straight victory and make it a one touch on December 7.”
