THE  Ghana Education Service (GES) has directed all Regional and District Directors of Education to ensure that  pupils/students below 18 years desist from attempting to vote during the December 7 general election.

To this end, heads of private, public schools and training colleges in their regions/districts are to advise the students “even if they may have been enticed by political parties to do so” to resist the temptation

In a circular dated October 20, signed by Charles Parker-Allotey, Head of Public Relations Unit of GES,  further reminded the heads of basic and second cycle schools that they “cannot, under the 1992 Constitution and the Electoral Laws of Ghana, prevent pupils and students of legal voting age who are registered to vote, from exercising their right to vote.”

They are therefore “directed to put in place arrangements to afford such students the opportunity to exercise their franchise”.
