Ghanaian players keep pace

It was a quiet weekend for Ghanaian players in the various European leagues. Ghanasoccernet has been keeping the tabs on their performances.

 

 

It was total humiliation for goalkeeper Chris Kirkland who picked four goals from his net at the JJB Sports Stadium.

 

Black Stars goalkeeper Richard Kingston was left devastated after watching Aston Villa greedily bagged away all three points.

 

Michael Pollitt was once again selected ahead of Kingston as the second choice goalkeeper. 

 

Harry Redknapp inspired Spurs first victory of the premiership season trashing Bolton Wanderers by 2-0.

 

Dread-lock king, Mustapha Riga , was a last minute substitute for Bolton as they sunk to the bottom of the league table.

 

Portsmouth showed that life without Harry Redknapp will be really difficult as they sat at the Fratton Park to settle for one all drawn game with John Paintsil's Fulham.

 

The right-full back solidly manned the Fulham defence to help them hold on to that vital away point. 

In the Coca-Cola Championship, speedster Quincy Owusu-Abeyie was out of action during the weekend as the Blues busily contended for a ticket to the premier league.

 

Charlton Athletics drew 1-1 with Burnley at home. Winger Lloyd Sam was a 46th minute substitute for the iffy-looking Charlton Athletics.

 

Queens Park Rangers who are without a manager escaped with a point from the Reading after drawing goalless at the Madejski Stadium.

 

Patrick Agyemang was not part of that QPR squad.

                             

IN GERMANY  

1899 Hoffenheim continued their impressive outing in the German Bundesliga thrashing Hamburger SV at their favourite Carl-Benz-Stadion.

 

Isaac Vorsah replaced Senegalese forward Demba Ba on the 79th minute mark helping the new boys to sustain a 3-0 victory which pushed them to top spot with 19 points. 

 

Bayern Leverkusen enjoyed a brief stay on top of the league table on Saturday after stunning F.C Koln on Friday evening.

Borussia Monchenglabach secured a 1-0 victory over Godfred Aduobe's Karlsruhe .

 

The midfield ace lost his place in the starting squad and replaced Michael Mutzel on the 45th minute.

 

Elsewhere in the Bundesliga II, Ibrahim Salou was a second half substitute for Duisburg as they picked a point from Mainz 05.

 

Former Asante Kotoko hit-man Isaac Boakye came on in the 86th minute for Nurnberg who squeezed a point out of TUS Koblenz

       

IN FRANCE

With 15 minutes left for the break, midfielder Moussa Narry had a golden opportunity to put the ball at the back of the yawning net to stutter Olympique Lyon but he blasted wide.

 

Injury kept John Mensah out of that scoreless draw.

 

Lorient had their second victory of the season smoothly edging past nine time champions Nantes by three goals to nil.

 

Andre Ayew subbed Jeremy Morel on the 77th minute.

 

In the French second division, Guingamp managed a point from their game with Troyes .

 

Michael Helebge was a major absentee for Guingamp but defender Jerry Prempeh lasted the entire duration of the game for the home side.

               

IN HOLLAND

It was a drought weekend for Mathew Amoah as his NAC Breda failed to score in their clash with Francis Dickoh's F.C Utrecht.

 

Both Ghanaians played 90 minutes for their respective clubs.

 

Youngster Jeffery Sarpong was missing in action for Ajax as the UEFA champions brushed aside NEC Nijmegen by 2-0.

 

Eric Addo was on the bench as Roda J.C surprisingly shocked PSV Eindhoven by three goals to two.

               

IN ITALY

 

The Seria A is beginning to pick pace but both Ahmed Barusso and Mark Edusei have gotten a dwindling season as the pair has failed to feature in their teams matches played over so far in the Seria A.

 

The story was no different as the clubs clashed over the weekend. Siena drew at home with Edusei's Catania .

 

Manager Jose Mourinho was forced to sub Sulley Muntari who limped off with injury on the 55th minute.

 

IN SCOTLAND

A muscle hitch kept midfielder Laryea Kingston out of action for Hearts of Midlothian.

 

It was no action weekend for Prince Buaben whose Dundee united won 2-0 over visiting St. Mirren. 

   

OTHERS

Bernard Yao Kumordzi was a scorer in Panionios' 5-2 demolishing of Eregotells. His 84th minute striker sealed the deal for the enterprising Panionios.

 

Samuel Yeboah scored all two goals for Hapoel Tel Aviv over Bnei Yehuda. Derek Boateng also saw 90 minutes of action for Beitar Jerusalem who defeated Ashdod  2-1.

 

In Switzerland , Neuchatel Xamax piped Kwabena Asamoa-frimpong's Lucerne by a lone goal.

 

The striker played the entire duration of the game for Lucerne . Striker Jones Kusi Asare was in full time action for Durgarden who lost at home to Kalmar in the Swedish League.

 

Winger Haminu Dramani sat on the bench for Lokomotiv Moscow who drew away to Amkar Perm in the Russian League. 

 

William Tiero continues to impress in the Portuguese Superliga. The former Asante Kotoko playmaker was a full-timer for Academica Coimbra. 

 

Randers F.C drew 2-2 with UEFA champions League campaigners Aalborg . Defender Issah Ahmed was a pillar in Randers ' backline but David Nii Addy was absent. 

 

In Belgium , Anderlecht , thumped KV Mechelen 7-1. Nana Kwasi Asare was shifted to midfield and that cost Mechelen's defence.
