MOFA thanks sponsors of World Food Day celebration

The Ministry of Food and Agriculture (MOFA) on Friday expressed gratitude to the UN Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO) and the 2007 National Best Farmer, Alhaji Abdul Akate for their support during the celebration of the World Food Day.

MOFA also thanked the leader and founder of the Amen Amen Institute, Amen Amenreynolds Amen and his members for gracing the occasion with a picnic dubbed: "Walk for Food" from El-Wak Stadium in Accra to the forecourt of the Ghana Irrigation Development Authority at the Ministries.

A statement signed by Ms Anna Nyamekye, MP and Deputy Minister (Livestock) and Chairperson, World Food Day Planning Committee, said the Amen Amen members made this year's celebration the most colourful and memorable event ever since it was introduced 28 years ago.

It said the Amen Amen Institute had been donating substantial amount of money towards the celebration every year.

This year's celebration, with the theme: "World Food Security: Challenges of Climate Change and Bioenergy" was observed on October 16, 2008.

The statement said the FAO had described Ghana's celebration as the most recognised and the best in Africa.

It said the Ministry hoped that the Amen Amen Institute would continue to show their unflinching support and solidarity towards the celebration every year.
