GCB Wins Best Security Conscious Media Award

The 5th Security Watch Africa Awards came off in Abuja, Nigeria at the weekend, bringing together the media and dignitaries throughout Africa.

GBC was awarded as Best Security Conscious Media (Electronic) – Ghana.

Preceding the awards night was a day of lectures held to commemorate the occasion.

On Saturday,  October 10, the Sheraton Abuja Hotel was turned into a spectacle of colour, design and performance.

The story of African excellence was told before a huge crowd made up of governors of Nigerian States, Senators, Directors, media, Representatives of corporate institutions and individuals among others.

The arrival of the Governor of Zamfara State, Alhaji Mahmuda Aliyu Shinkafi at the Awards venue, was a sight to behold as it got every body, depending on where they came from, either grumbling or appreciating the over one hundred members of his entourage.

The climax was the honours where individuals, institutions and corporate bodies were awarded in four main categories namely: Governance, Golden Star Awards, Security Agencies Awards and Corporate Awards. Ghana came home with individual and corporate awards.

In the Golden Star Award category, His Excellency Kofi Annan, former Secretary-General of the United Nations received the Golden Star Award for Peace and Security in Africa; His Excellency Alhaji Aliu Mahama, Vice President of the Republic of Ghana took the Golden Star Award for Development and Stability in Governance in West Africa; Dr. Felix Anyah, Director General, Holy Trinity Medical Centre, Spa and Health Farm was awarded the Golden Star for Exemplary Leadership in Healthcare Delivery in West Africa (individual); Dr. Theresa Oppong-Beeko, President/CEO, Manet Incorporated, Golden Star Award for Exemplary Leadership in Provision of Shelter for Low Income Earners in West Africa (individual);  Dr. Addo-Kufuor, Minister for the Interior, Golden Star Award for National Security Management; Ghana Police Service, Golden Star Award for Leadership in Peacekeeping Operations in Africa (Police) and Dr. Lawrence Tetteh, Founder/President, Worldwide Miracle Outreach United Kingdom, Golden Star Award for Peace in West Africa.

In the Corporate Awards category, the Ghana Broadcasting Corporation (GBC) emerged as Best Security Conscious Media in Ghana (Electronic), Amal Bank Limited, Ghana was adjudged Best Security Conscious Bank in Ghana and The Corporate Guardian Ltd, Best Security Conscious Media in Ghana (Print).
