A 25-year-old driver's mate on Monday broke down in tears after an Accra Circuit Court handed down a five-year jail term on him for inflicting cutlass wounds on his colleague's head and rib.

Richard Osei is said to have slashed Kojo Aboagye after he had exposed him for stealing prepared food from a food seller at the Odawna lorry station in Accra.

Osei, who was charged with causing harm, pleaded guilty and the court presided over Mrs Ivy Heward-Mills sentenced him accordingly.

The prosecutor, Chief Inspector Mary Adika, said on October 13, Aboagye wanted to buy the food from the seller at the Odawna lorry station, and while the woman walked to him, Osei stole some of it.

Aboagye reported Osei to the food seller but he was offended. He then went for a cutlass and inflicted wounds on his head and ribs.

The prosecution said Aboagye was apprehended by the angry mob and handed over to the Police. Aboagye in his caution statement admitted the offence.
