Nazareth and Mona win GCB Invitational Golf

David Nazareth and Mona Myles-Lamptey became the proud winners of this year's Ghana Commercial Bank Limited Invitational Golf Championship played at the Cocoa Research Institute of Ghana (CRIG) Golf Course at Tafo in the Eastern Region on Saturday.

Nazareth returned a gross score of 78, playing 41 Back and 37 Front with zero Handicap to emerge the overall champion in the Men's category whilst Mona scored 82 gross to win the Ladies segment of the keenly-contested competition.

The two were crowned 'Golf Hene' and 'Golf Hemaa' respectively and received magnificent trophies presented by Mr Sam Amankwaah, Deputy Managing Director of Ghana Commercial Bank Limited.

The second position went to Ernest Opoku with 79 gross, while Enoch Tetteh Mensah took the third position with 80 gross, beating Alex Fiagome on count-back.

Yaa Konadu Safo-Debrah placed second with a gross score of 112 to take the other prize in the Ladies segment.

Nana Yeboah won the Juniors encounter with 65 net followed by Kennedy Amenyo with a net score of 55, while Gyima Yaya took the third position with 71 net.

Dr Yaw Adu Ampomah, Executive Director of CRIG said the Institute was constructing a Four-Star hotel to generate funds for research and called on corporate bodies to support the project.

In an address read on his behalf, Mr Lawrence Adu Mante, Managing Director of GCB said the sponsorship of the event forms part of the Bank's corporate social responsibilities to support the development of sports in the country adding that the bank would continue to sponsor the event in the ensuing years.
