By Bismark Bebli - Ghanaian Chronicle

A leading member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr. Nyaho Nyaho Tamakloe has given assurance that all District, Municipal and Metropolitan Chief Executives will be elected when Nana Akufo-Addo assumes office as President of Ghana next year.

He said, though the party promised to make the above positions elective when it was in opposition, that promise could not be fulfilled because there was no money in the national coffers to organize a referendum, which is one of the prerequisites when the party took over the reins of government in 2000.

Dr. Nyaho Tamakloe, who was speaking in an interview with The Chronicle, said the Kufuor government has now laid the economic foundation and that Nana Addo would not find it difficult meeting all the conditions for the DCEs and MCEs to be elected, through universal adult suffrage.

Dr. Tamakloe, who is also Ghana's ambassador to Serbia, told this reporter that NPP would win the December elections. “I know the NPP is winning hands down without any violence. There would be no violence and we shall win convincingly in a one touch victory, and there would be no second round. The signs are clear. It is crystal clear that it is the NPP that will lead the people of Ghana after this year's election,” he said.

According to him, one of the major reasons why the NPP will be voted for in the upcoming elections was that it has restored hope in the nation's economy.

Dr. Nyaho-Nyaho Tamakloe maintained that those who have been talking about power sharing, which appear to be the new style on the African continent, especially with reference to Zimbabwe and Kenya, should rethink their strategy because it would never happen in Ghana.

Touching on the ban of retired officers from security installations after thay had a meeting with the former President, Flt. Lt. Jerry John Rawlings, Dr. Tamakloe noted that he perfectly agreed with the decision, saying “If it were to be the regime of the former President that a similar meeting took place, those people would not have been alive by now.”

The NPP firebrand said it was unfortunate that the ex Security gurus would want to run a parallel security in the nation, and that they should be watched carefully. “It is amazing that some of our retired army officers want to get into politics through the back door. In all countries like Israel and others, where soldiers get into politics, the first thing to do is to put down the uniform and mount the 'soap box' and campaign.'

To him, the retired Security capos were misled by the former President into having a meeting to brainstorm over security matters.
