100 golfers to compete for GCB Invitational trophy

All is set for the Third Annual Ghana Commercial Bank Limited Invitational Golf Championship scheduled for the Cocoa Research Institute of Ghana (CRIG) Golf Course at Tafo in the Eastern Region on Saturday, October 18.

Dr Francis Oppong, Captain of the Tafo Golf Club told GNA Sports in Accra on Monday, that 100 golfers from Achimota, Tema, Bok Nam Kim and Celebrity Golf Clubs have been invited to participate in the competition.

He said the one-day 18-Hole Medal-Play event, which would be played under the rules of the Ghana Golf Association and the local rules of the Tafo Golf Club, has Handicap 18 and 24 respectively as the entry requirements.

Dr Oppong said management was stepping up preparations to ensure a keener competition this year.

Prince Kofi Amoabeng, President of the Tafo Golf Club would lead the Tafo team which would include Joe Daglo, Francis Oppong, Theophilus Asampong and Lee Mensah while the Achimota Club would be led by their captain, Robert Evans.

Other golfers would include Mike Ezan, Charles Tabi, Dan Dennis, Daniel List and Paul List.

'Golf Hemaa' Mona Myres-Lamptey, Florence Etwi-Barimah, Grace Afriyie, Ama Morgan and Esi Cobbina would battle each other for supremacy in the Ladies segment.

There would be prizes for the 'Longest Drive on Hole 18' and the 'Nearest to the Pin on Hole 17'

Mr Lawrence Adu Mante, Managing Director of the Ghana Commercial Limited is expected to grace the occasion.
