Reverend Professor Gilbert Ansre, former Lecturer of University of Ghana, Legon, has called on parents to take active interest in the education of their children to become useful citizens.

He noted that education played vital role in the socio-economic development of every nation and no-one could succeed in life without education.

Rev. Prof. Ansre made the call at the third Graduation of Holy Child Continual School at Adenta near Accra on Friday.

It was under the theme “Good Parenting – A vital force for excellence performance in school”.

He said children were “God-given gifts” and stressed the need to give them the necessary support to develop their talents.

Rev. Prof. Ansre appealed to teachers to take their profession serious and desist from absenteeism which was affecting the teaching profession.

Mrs Emelia Asamoah, Proprietress of the school said it was established in 1993 as a crèche with 10 pupils and now reached Junior High School with 280 students.

She said out of 22 students presented for 2006 Basic Education Certificate Examination, nine had distinction, eight had distinction in 2007, while eight had distinction this year out of the same number presented.

Mrs Asamoah appealed to Ghana Education Service to provide the school with library books and computers to enhance teaching and learning.

Mr Godfred Dziwornu-Sosa, Assistant Headmaster of the school appealed to the pupils to take their lessons serious and avoid drug abuse and social vices that could mar their future.
