Mahamadu Bawumia, NPP Vice Presidential candidate has announced that Agriculture would be the pillar of the national economy in an Akufo-Addo led government.  According to him, the government would modernize agriculture and make it more attractive to farmers.

Addressing Muslims at Donkorkrom, the Afram Plains District capital on Sunday as part of his tour of the Eastern Region, Dr Bawumia said "we are going to modernise agriculture and manage it better to serve as the pillar for our national economy'.

He said Nana Akufo-Addo's government would improve all sectors of the economy to help sustain the current economic growth, declaring that when the economy improves the benefits would not be enjoyed by only NPP members but all Ghanaians.

Dr Bawumia cited the National Insurance Scheme introduced by the Kufuor administration which was rejected by the NDC and the repeal of the Criminal Libel Law as examples of far reaching policies that had made life better for the entire citizenry, not the party that introduced them.

He urged Muslims and indeed all Ghanaians to ensure a peaceful election in the December polls.  In election, he said there is bound to be a winner and a loser, but said 'we know the one who will lose'.

Alecs Agobo, Eastern Regional Secretary of NPP urged Ewes in the region to associate with NPP and vote massively for it in the December election.  He regretted that Ewes in the past put their eggs in one basket, referring to their association with the opposition National Democratic Congress.

He urged them to bear it in mind that they are Ghanaians and cannot afford to belong to a single party.

Alhaji Fusein Usman, Donkorkrom Chief Imam thanked the Vice President, Alhaji Aliu Mohama for providing the area with an Islamic school, cement for completion of their mosque and two water thanks for use at the mosque.

At Atibie-Kwahu, Nana Owona Asante, Kwahu South District Chief Executive touted the economic credentials of Nana Akufo-Addo's running mate. Describing Dr Bawumia as one of the best Economists ever produced in Ghana, he noted that that he was a key member of the economic experts who have made it possible for Ghana to stand the shocks of the world oil crisis as well as other shocks.

Yaw Gyekye Amoabeng, Eastern Regional Chairman of the NPP urged Ghanaians to compare the achievement of NDC and NPP government and make an informed choice in the December polls.

The team also visited Maame-Krobo in the Afram Plains, and Mpraeso, among others.
