The Western Regional Peace Advisory Council (RPAC), has advised Keep Fit Clubs in the Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolis not to castigate their political opponents through songs and inflammatory statements.

The Council gave the advice in a press statement released at Sekondi on Wednesday and signed by the Chairman, Mr A.L. Aggrey and the Regional Peace Promotion Officer, Bishop Andrew Okoh.

It expressed concern about the recent activities of Keep Fit Clubs in the Metropolis, who sometimes castigated political opponents in various forms.

The Council cited an incident that occurred between Keep Fit Clubs of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in their early morning outings on Sunday October 5, 2008 at Takoradi.

It said Keep Fit Clubs should regard themselves as residents of the Metropolis and Ghanaians, irrespective of their political affiliation, and ensure that their activities do not degenerate into clashes to disturb the relative peace in the area.

The Council urged leaders of Political parties to call their supporters to order and extend same to Keep Fit Clubs in the region.

It said the Regional Electoral Security Task Force should take the necessary steps to curb such incidents and advised the general public to be mindful of their pronouncements, which could damage the peace the people are enjoying.
