Kwame, Arkutu win GOIL Golf

E.M. Kwame and Joy Arkutu, two accomplished golfers of the Achimota Golf Club claimed top honours at the 20th Seniors Amatuer Golf Championships which ended at the Tema Country Golf Course last Sunday.

Kwame, who was breaking his long absence from competitive golfing burst up with 153 gross score over two days, while the immediate past trustee of the Africa Ladies Golf Union –Mrs. Arkutu run away with the ladies giant trophy with 173 gross score, also over a two-day 36-hole scratch play.

A highly consistent golfer, Group Captain Gyimah Kwakye beat seasoned performer S.D. Odame on count back for the runner up prize, with 170 gross score with veteran Paul List 171 gross, and Kwabena Boakye 176 gross, followed by E.M. Kwame respectively.

Opoku Sam 140net, Peter Fiagbe 144net and Ampiaw Osei 149net excelled in the men's handicap event, while ex-club captain of Tema, Alex Yayra Fiagbe bagged 164 gross to beat J. Sedefia 171 gross in the men's 'B' event. Bea Vetsch Bempong took the ladies Group 'B' event with a 174 gross score

Professor George Ntsiful, President of the Ghana Golf Association in his speech commended Ghana Oil Company Limited (GOIL) for consecutively sponsoring the tournament. He also commended the Tema Country Golf Club for hosting the tournament.
