DCE advocates adequate resource for GNA

Mr. Abdul Karim Boakye-Yiadom, District Chief Executive (DCE) for Asante Akim South has stressed the need for Ghana News Agency (GNA) to be well-resourced to enable it discharge its duties affectively.
He said the role of the GNA in the media landscape was very significant hence the need for the Agency to be adequately resourced to ensure the purpose for which it was established.
Mr. Boakye-Yiadom made the statement when the Board Chairman of the GNA, Nana Rex Owusu-Ansah called on him as part of his working visit to the offices of the Agency in the Eastern, Ashanti and Brong Ahafo Regions on Friday.
The DCE lauded the Agency for its role in bringing news from the grassroots to the fore, saying it served as the voice of rural folks whose immense contributions to national development also deserved publicity.
He commended the GNA board for the initiative to tour its various offices to identify problems facing the staff and pledged the assembly’s support to the Juaso Office.
Nana Owusu-Ansah said the visit was to familiarize himself at first hand the challenges facing the various offices of the Agency, especially those at the district level to enable the board address them accordingly.
He said the decision was taken at a recent board meeting, adding that other board members had also embarked on similar visits in other regions.
The board chairman who is also the Krontihene of the Wenchi Traditional Area in the Brong Ahafo Region entreated the staff of the Agency to give of their best in the discharge of their duties as the board and management strived to improve their working conditions.
Mrs. Elizabeth Kankam-Boadu, Ashanti Regional Manager of GNA commended the Assembly for its support to the Juaso Office and assured the DCE that the Agency would continue to give the district the needed publicity.
