Stop disposing of refuse irresponsibly -Zoomlion warns

The Accra Zonal Supervisor of Zoomlion Ghana Limited, Mr. Robert Coleman, has advised Ghanaians to be patriotic, and stop disposing off refuse irresponsibly.

He entreated all to patronise the Free Bin Promotion, to enhance good sanitation for a better life.

Mr. Coleman made these statements, in an address when the Zoomlion went to help the victims of the fire outbreak at the Kantamanto Market in Accra.

He noted that the company put Ghana's interest far above any other activity of the company.

He said, “we have many projects, but when National Duty calls, such as this, we suspend everything to ensure that the life of the average Ghanaians is improved.”

He pointed out Zoomlion's presence at the burnt out market place, was in response to a call from the Ministries of Local Government and Information for assistance to the victims.

He added that his outfit had deployed over 60 workers to clear the debris, “and now we are here for the total evacuation of this huge waste to our landfill sites.”

Mr. Coleman was of the view that this would facilitate movement, and enhance sanitation in the vicinity.

“We will also disinfect the whole place by spraying, to avert the outbreak of diseases such as Typhoid and Cholera among others,” he stated.

He observed that one major problem Zoomlion was facing, was the bad attitude of the masses of Ghanaians.

“We are on top, and are in charge of sanitation issues, but the irresponsible attitudes of Ghanaian especially our market folks, are our greatest challenges. We clean huge chunks of rubbish, and put waste bins there, yet many litter around and dump refuse anywhere.”

Meanwhile, it would be recalled that about weeks ago, portions of the Kantamanto market in Accra, were destroyed by fire, where hundreds of stalls and wares running into billions of cedis were razed to the ground.

So far, some relief items have been promised by the various political parties. New structures are being put up, and Mr. Thomas Frimpong, a security officer at the Kantamanto market, has assured traders that better structures and measures were being put in place to prevent future fire outbreaks.
