THE Western Regional Chairman of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), Nana Owusu-Ankomah, has moved swiftly to put a dampener on the formation of the 'Operation Win One Touch Movement' in the Ahanta West Constituency.
The move by the Regional Chairman, to put a dampener on the formation of the movement, which has been hailed by party supporters and executives, follows the use of the movement by the former constituency Chairman of the party, Mr. Papa Cromwell, to campaign against the party's sitting Member of Parliament (MP), who has won the primary against a candidate allegedly sponsored by the District Chief Executive (DCE).
Operation Win Onetouch is a movement within the NPP, with the sole aim of canvassing for votes for the flagbearer of the party, Nana Akufo Addo and the party's parliamentary candidates, to win first round in the December general elections.
Mr. Papa Cromwell, former constituency chairman of the party, is the originator of the movement in the constituency.
Two members of the Regional Council of Elders of the party, Mr. Isaac Gyasa and Mr. P. K. Damuah, last Wednesday, at a marathon meeting, mediated and cautioned the former Chairman, to desist from using the movement to campaign against the MP.
But the latter allegedly persisted, and claimed that he was going to form and inaugurate the movement in Ahanta West, saying that the elders should sanction him.
Papa Cromwell failed to speak to this reporter when reached on his cell phone, but in a telephone interview, Nana Owusu-Ankomah told this reporter that he moved to scuttle the formation of the movement in the constituency, following evidence adduced that the former Chairman of the party, was using the movement to campaign against the party's parliamentary candidate in the constituency.
For that reason, the party could not sit unconcerned for individuals to use the movement to campaign for a skirt and blouse pattern, since the movement was solely aimed at canvassing for votes for the flagbearer and the party's parliamentary candidates, allover the 230 constituencies.
The former Chairman, Mr. Cromwell, who is behind the formation of the movement, was no more an executive member, and therefore using the movement to campaign against the party's parliamentary candidate was more 'sinful,' and contravened the aims and objectives of the movement.
He added that the movement was supposed to be handled in every constituency, by executives of the party, and not just individuals.
On his part, the Communications Officer to Mr. Samuel Johnfiah told this paper, in a telephone interview, that the MP was very much concerned over how the movement was being used to campaign against him.
However, the MP, according to the communications officer Kwesi Adams, was not perturbed on the grounds that the former believed that his achievements, and track record as MP, was what the electorate were going to consider and vote for him.
