Two policemen remanded for robbery

Two police officers, Joseph Frimpong and Frank Boakye on Wednesday appeared before the Accra Circuit Court charged with robbery.
Their pleas were not taken because according to the Judge Idrisu Mahamah, the dockets of the accused persons were not properly assigned before his court to enable him proceed with the case.

The two police constables who are stationed at the Airport Police Station, alleged to have arrested their accusers, a driver and his two mates who were driving a truck loaded with bicycles and motor spare parts valued at GH¢120,000.00 from the Tema Habour to the Republic of Mali on August 14 this year.

On reaching the Dzorwulu traffic light, at about 5;30pm, the policemen pulled the complainant and his mates out of the truck into waiting taxi cabs under the pretext of arresting them and escorted them to the Achimota Forest where they abandoned them.

The complainants were able however to trace their way back to the Dzorwulu traffic light only to realize that the cargo truck had been driven away. They therefore reported the matter to the police who arrested the pair after investigation.

The Judge ordered that until the docket of the two policemen were properly assigned they should be remanded in prison custody.
