Cycling: Ghana Back To World Body

Ghanaian cycling has been re-admitted to the family of the world cycling governing body, the Union of Cycling International (UCI), after more than a decade of exclusion.

The nation's new status, as well as that of Somalia and The Gambia, are expected to be endorsed by congress in Italy on September 26 after which the Ghana Cycling Association (GCA) will apply formally to the body for technical and other support.

Ghana was axed from the body for failing to honour its financial obligation, as well as her inability to participate in programmes organised by the world governing body.

GCA sources said the National Sports Council (NSC) was expected to send the chairman of the association, Mohammed Sahnoon, and the Technical Director, Mohammed Shabaan, to the congress to make a case for Ghana.

The two will also present a paper soliciting an expatriate coach for gratis, equipment and other assistance to enhance Ghana's chances of making an impact on the world stage.
