Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, Presidential running-mate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), at the weekend said a new NPP government under Nana Akufo-Addo would address the concerns of farmers in the three northern regions, by giving them equal attention as that of cocoa farmers in the South.

He said revamping of the rice, tomato and the cotton industries in the north to boost the northern economy would be the main priority areas, which the Nana Akufo-Addo's Northern Development Fund would be used to tackle.

Dr Bawumia gave the assurance when he addressed a well attended rally at the Tamale Jubilee Park on Sunday, as part of his tour of the three northern regions.

Dr Bawumia was met on arrival by party supporters at the Tamale Airport junction and led him into the Tamale Metropolis and compelled him to address the crowd despite the darkness.

He said other areas of concern to the NPP government would be the creation of more jobs, youth involvement decision making, and working hard to improve the living standards of Ghanaians.

He said his nomination as running-mate of the NPP was a clear testimony of youth involvement in Nana Akufo-Addo's government to sharpen their skills, and appealed to all youths in the country to rally behind the party for a well deserved victory in December for the NPP to retain power.

Dr Bawumia assured Ghanaians that the NPP was capable of building a sound economy, and that it was necessary for Ghanaians to return the party to power to continue to offer the citizens with good governance in an atmosphere of peace and tranquillity.

Dr Bawumia was scheduled to round-up his 7-day tour of the three northern regions in Tamale on Monday, but had to suspend all activities following some disturbances that led to the burning of both NPP and NDC offices in the Metropolis.

In a media briefing in Tamale on Monday to give reasons for the suspension of his tour, Dr Bawumia said it was not proper for people to fight during the month of Ramadan, hence the need for him to suspend all political activities to come back later.
