Commercial drivers at Tema Station have expressed disappointment that successive governments had not addressed their problems.

In an interview with Ghana News Agency (GNA), Mr. Richard Ansah, a union chairman at the station, said they were prepared to support any government which would solve their problems.

Some of their complaints are continuous harassment of the police who made them pay “unnecessary fees” and their arrest without any cause.

He said a motor court had been set up to address issues concerning drivers, but it was not relevant since it was not serving its main purpose.

Another driver who spoke to the GNA said though they had been forced to renew their vehicle insurance every six months, anytime their vehicles developed a fault or got involved in an accident, the insurance companies refused to give them benefits to repair their vehicles.

He also complained about the increased number of the Metro Mass buses saying this was destroying their businesses since the fare of the bus was cheaper than the normal Trotro fares.
