Striking workers at the Presidential Palace, currently under construction at the Flag Staff House in Accra, are back to work after embarking on a sit-down strike today.

The workers' return to work follows an intervention by the presidency, which the workers say has promised to address their concerns.

They are demanding no less than GH¢500 per year for each of the about 200 workers who claim to have worked on the project for the past two-and-a-half years.

Some of the workers who spoke to Joy FM said their return to work is only temporary, and they expect their concerns to be addressed by Tuesday, failing which they would suspend work again until their demands are met fully.

The aggrieved workers say for two-and-half years that they have been engaged as casual workers on the project to house Ghana's presidency, they have been paid GH¢30 per day, a sum they said was highly inadequate for the work they do.

They alleged that since work on the Palace was coming to a conclusion, they have been hinted that a number of them were to be disengaged. They however fear they may not be given any further compensation beyond the daily stipend of GH¢30.
