A suspected robber, who is said to have confessed
his involvement in five robberies in Tema and Accra recently has been nabbed
by the Greater Accra Regional Police Command.

Alex Tetteh Ametepey was arrested by the Police/Military patrol team at
the Customs, Excise and Preventive Service (CEPS) branch office at James Town
at about 1200 noon on August 30.

The suspect was said to have in his possession three locally manufactured pistols, a 9mm Logar pistol, a knife, seven rounds of AAA ammunitions concealed in a black leather bag.

Speaking to journalists in Accra, Superintendent Dennis A Abade, Regional Crime Officer, said on August 30 a Police/Military patrol team on their checks at the CEPS district office at James Town intercepted a Nissan Primera taxi cab with registration number GR 389 T being driven by Micheal Ashaley Coffie.

Supt. Abade said when the team decided to conduct a search on the taxi, two gentlemen alighted and escaped leaving Ametepey who was seated in front with the driver.

When Ametepey, who was suspected to be leader of the robbers, was searched, a black leather bag containing the weapons and implements was found.

The Regional Crime officer said when Coffie, the taxi driver was interrogated, he said Ametepey and two other men hired him from Agege, near Mamprobi, to Papaye at Osu in Accra.

Supt. Abade said Ametepey also alleged that he was going to pick an accomplices at Jokers at Labadi in Accra and another at Circle to rob people.

According to Ametepey he and his accomplices had earlier conducted five robberies within Accra and Tema metropolis.

The Crime officer said the Police would soon put Ametepey before court and use Coffie, whom they he described at as a victim, as a witness.

Supt. Abade cautioned taxi drivers to be alert and drive suspicious characters to the Police Station as soon as they picked them.
