The Media Telecommunications Network (MTN), a giant international mobile phone company operating in Ghana, on Thursday donated items and cash amounting to GH¢16,000, towards the celebration of the Oguaa Fetu Afahye, which runs from Tuesday, this week, to Sunday.

The items include mobile phones, company souvenirs and cheque for GH¢1,000.

Speaking at the short donation ceremony in Cape Coast, Mr. Frank Kofi Ayivor, Events Manager, said MTN was happy to be part of the Oguaa Fetu Afahye, because the festival was an internationally-recognised one.

He said the company saw this year's Afahye, as a unique one, because it also marked the 10th Anniversary of the installment of Osabarima Kwesi Atta II, Omanhen of the Oguaa Traditional Area.

Mr. Ayivor said the donation also formed part of the company's drive, to enrich communities they operated in, to ensure mutual benefit.

Nana Kwamina Nyimfa IX, Adontenhen of Oguaa Traditional Area, who received the items of behalf of Osabarima Kwesi Atta, thanked MTN for the gesture, and expressed the hope that the support would propel the Fetu Afahye to greater heights this year.

He used the opportunity to invite, all and sundry, to the festival.

Efua Falconer, MTN Media Relations Officer, commended the chiefs and people of Cape Coast, for giving the company the opportunity to celebrate the festival with them.

Meanwhile, the Afahye fever has gripped the ancient capital city, as unusual traffic jams have started building up in the metropolis.

Other preparatory activities from the Traditional Council, such as clean up exercises, have been undertaken to ensure the smooth start of the festival.

Sources close to the Castle, Osu, indicate that President John Agyekum Kufuor was expected to attend, while the National Democratic Congress (NDC) presidential candidate, Prof. John Evans Atta Mills, was also expected to participate in the festival, of his native hometown.
