Only One Selection Process Into SHS — Allotey

This year's Computerised Schools Selection and Placement System (CSSPS) of qualified Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) candidates into senior high schools and technical institutes will be a one-off exercise.

Consequently, there would be no second or third placement exercises this year.

Head of Public Relations of the Ghana Education Service (GES), Mr Charles Parker Allotey, who disclosed this to the Junior Graphic, explained that this would ensure that all qualified students report at school at the same time.

He recalled that in previous years, some of candidates were placed long after their colleagues had fully settled down for studies, “and this is what we want to avoid this year,” he stressed.

Mr Allotey said before the candidates wrote the BECE, they were made to select six schools of their choice so that during the placement exercise, every qualified candidate could be posted to a school of his or her choice in the first round of the exercise.

He reminded the public that the placement exercise was based purely on merit and according to the choices made by the candidates. He therefore called for co-operation for a successful exercise.

Mr Allotey said following the release of the BECE results by the West African Examinations Council (WAEC), the CSSPS Secretariat was working feverishly to ensure that the placement exercise would be done as soon as possible.

Meanwhile, BECE candidates could check their results on the Internet, using the WAEC scratch card.
