Mr Joshua Makupu, Nkwanta-South District Co-ordinator of the National Youth Employment Programme (NYEP) has been appointed as the new Presiding Member of the Nkwanta District Assembly.

He replaces Mr Jackson Kwame Jakayi who is now the Presiding Member of the newly created Nkwanta-North District Assembly at Kpassa.

Mr Makupu polled 22 votes to beat Mr George Sarku Darkey, a tutor the Ntroboman Senior High School who polled seven votes in the election supervised by the Electoral Commission.

He expressed his appreciation to the Assembly members for the confidence reposed in him and pledged to deepen the co-operation among stakeholders in the Assembly's development.

Mr Makupu called on the Assembly members to be non-partisan in pursuing the development of the district.

He said he would help to intensify tax education to convince the people in the district to see it as a duty rather than as a punishment.

Mr Joseph Booker Denteh, Nkwanta South District Chief Executive on behalf of the Assembly members congratulated Mr Makupu for his new status and asked for co-operation in pursuing the development of the district.
