School To Set Up Africa Campus In Ghana

The China-Europe International Business School, a global tertiary institution, is to establish its Africa campus in Ghana. The decision to establish the Africa campus in Ghana followed painstaking research by the authorities of the school for a suitable place on the continent.

A delegation from the school, which is in Accra to hold further consultations with government officials and other stakeholders in the educational sector, paid a courtesy call on President J. A. Kufuor at the Castle, Osu, last Monday.

The school is negotiating with the authorities of the Ghana College of Physicians and Surgeons to secure part of its offices for its initial operations.

Receiving the delegation, which was led by Professor Pedro Nueno, President Kufuor welcomed the decision to establish the school's Africa campus in Ghana as good news and pledged the support of the government in that direction.

The prestigious school is said to have campuses in Shanghai in China, Spain, Mexico and Argentina.

President Kufuor said the government was the first to establish a ministry responsible for private sector development and, therefore, business education was consistent with its policy to promote the private sector.

He said the government's view was that business should be studied along technological and scientific lines so that the products of business schools would become entrepreneurs, instead of seeking employment as managers.

The President said the African Union had fashioned out a New Partnership for Africa's Development (NEPAD) to seek partnerships from across the globe to drive its development agenda and, therefore, the decision to establish the Africa campus of the business school in Ghana was a step in the right direction, as it would give meaning to Africa's vision.

Professor Nueno said after holding deliberations with government officials and other stakeholders in the educational sector, it had become clear to the delegation that the selection of Ghana as the venue for the school's Africa campus was the right one.
