Mr. Jonathan Tackie-Komme, MP for Odododiodioo, has pledged his commitment to ensure the development of the area and the well-being of the people if he is retained in this year's election.
Addressing a meeting of members and supporters of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in Accra, the MP said he had been tried and tested as a youth organizer, organizer of the party and as an Assemblyman and a Parliamentarian.
Mr. Tackie-Komme said with his wealth of experience he would work harder
to ensure the socio-economic advancement of the area if he was retained as the MP for the area.
The MP, who is seeking re-election in the 2008 general election on the ticket of the NDC called for unity and commitment within the rank and file of the party in the constituency to retain the seat.
He expressed his gratitude to the national, regional and constituency executives and opinion leaders who facilitated the reconciliatory efforts between him and the two other aspirants who contested the constituency election to select a Parliamentary Candidate of the party at the delegates' conference recently.
Mr. Tackie-Komme stated that he had smoked the “peace pipe” with the former aspirants, Mr. Walid Laryea and Mr. Benjamin Okai, popularly known as Teacher Nii-Nii who would join the team to campaign for the NDC to retain the seat and for Professor John Evans Atta-Mills, Presidential Candidate of the party to form the next government.
He called on the followers of the former aspirants to “bury the hatchet” and join hands for a resounding victory in both the Parliamentary and Presidential elections.
Mr. Daniel Okai, Constituency Chairman, also thanked those who contributed towards the mediation efforts and appealed to the members and supporters to unite and rally behind the Parliamentary Candidate to ensure victory.
He called on NDC members and supporters to patronize the National Identification exercise to obtain their National Identity (ID) cards, which had started in the Central Region.
Mr. Okai noted that even though the timing of the exercise was bad since it could be confused with the registration of voters, people should co-operate with the officials to ensure the success of the very important national exercise.
He stressed the importance of the training of Polling Agents for this year's elections to avoid rigging and other election malpractices and invited more volunteers for the exercise.
The Constituency Chairman announced the presence of some members of the tertiary institutions wing of the party on an outreach programme in the constituency and asked the members to co-operate and assist them.
He asked them to step up their house-to-house and market-to-market
campaign as part of the membership drive to make victory for the NDC “double sure” in the elections.
