Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Presidential candidate on Monday urged political parties to embark on constructive campaigns with the view to holding Ghanaians together rather than dividing them.
This is because Ghana is being keenly observed by the international community as an icon of peace and democracy in Africa, a reputation she must protect during this year's elections.
Nana Akufo-Addo stressed this point in Keta, Anloga and Akatsi to round off his current campaign tour of the Volta region.
"We condemn the tactics of divide and rule by some people with the intent of gaining power," he said.
"By this process we would only succeed in tearing the people apart, making governance and development impossible in the long term," he cautioned.
He noted that the widespread development projects in the Volta Region since the NPP came into office have made nonsense of campaigns, which seek to portray the NPP as ethnic-oriented and anti-Volta Region.
"Thank God, the support base of the NPP in the region is on the rise as we have not been before," he noted.
Nana Akufo-Addo introduced Mr. Cudjo Fianoo, a sports administrator, Mr. Edward Ahiabor Keta MCE and Mr. Anthony Ablenu Akatsi DCE as party's parliamentary candidates for Keta, Anlo and Ave-Avenor respectively.
Regent Felix Doglo a representative of the Chief of Akatsi commended government for the reconstruction works on the Soakage-Akatsi portion of the Accra-Aflao highway and further appealed for the construction of the roads in the district to link the highway.
