Ghanaians urged to protect state property

  Mon, 07 Jul 2008

Most Reverend Gabriel Akwasi Mante, Bishop of Catholic Diocese of Jasikan at the weekend urged Ghanaians to always protect state property.
He said the notion that State facilities belonged to "government", left many strategic investments and infrastructure to waste away.
Bishop Mante was inaugurating a GHc100,000 rehabilitated wards at the Saint Mary Theresa Catholic hospital at Dodi-Papase in the Kadjebi district.
He called for a policy direction to encourage those who are given responsibility over state property to cherish and protect them as if they were their own.
Dr Christine Tetteh, Medical Superintendent of the Hospital, said the 98-bed capacity facility would serve communities in the northern part of the Volta region and neighbouring Togo.
She said 31 people of 585 tested positive for HIV/AIDS, including five pregnant women and two children less than five years between January and June this year.
In 2007, 84 persons out of 604 screened for the disease tested positive.
She said the hospital lacked an ambulance and telecommunication facilities.
