An aspiring parliamentarian has called on leaders of political parties to preach peace during their campaign for the December election.
Mr. Aquinas Tawiah Quansah, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) parliamentary candidate for Mfantseman West, said by so doing peace would trickle down to their followers.
Mr. Quansah, who was addressing a press conference at Saltpond, said political leaders had a role in the conduct of the election since they had some influence on their supporters.
He expressed worry about how political polarization was trying to tear the country apart and appealed to the leadership of parties to regard unity of the people as paramount to anything else.
He said his priority would be to involve the electorate in the parliamentary system through regular interactions and advised the youth not to allow themselves to be exploited by politicians and their followers.
Mr Quansah said he would ensure that all children of school-going age who are not in school are enrolled and retained in school and those who have not registered with the Municipal Health Insurance Scheme would be encouraged to do so.
He expressed concern about the deteriorating condition of the fishing industry and said it dying gradually.
“When elected I will draw the attention of the government and the donor partners to the need to introduce fishermen and fishmongers to alternative livelihood activities.”
