There has been increasing reported cases of harassment and intimidation of teachers by some communities in the Ahafo Ano North District, the Ghana National Education Coalition Campaign (GNECC) said.
In a report at its meeting held in Kumasi, GNECC said in certain instances, the teachers were assaulted by members of the community who accused them of seducing their wives.
Others also leveled defilement charges against the teachers for which they attacked them.
The report mentioned some of the communities as Nyameadom, Tepa, Subriso Katapei, Nyameadom and Abonsuaso.
The coalition is working in collaboration with the Ghana Education Service (GES) to provide free quality basic education for all children of school-going age through advocacy.
Addressing the meeting, Mr. Richard Owusu-Agyemang, head of Public Relations at the Ashanti Regional Education Office, said GES was committed to building a systematic approach to assist organizations and individuals to play major role in the regeneration of schools.
Mr. Owusu-Agyemang advised the coalition to strengthen its structures, systems and human skills to enable it better define and achieve the objectives of the new education reform.
In a resolution, the GNECC lauded the government's school feeding programme and suggested that food quality should not only be improved but the programme should be extended to all schools throughout the country.
It called for the timely release of the capitation grant to basic schools to enable teachers adequately prepare their teaching and learning materials for classes.
