Kufuor stresses importance of ICT literacy
29.06.2008 LISTEN

The President, John Agyekum Kufuor, has stressed the need for Ghanaians to develop interest in computer literacy and be in tune with the current world of ICT.  He noted that acquisition of knowledge in all fields including reading and numeracy without computer skills in this era is an incomplete form of education.

President Kufuor  said this when he presented computers to seven needy Second Cycle Institutions from some cocoa growing communities in the Central Region at a ceremony at Nyakrom in the Agona West Municipality.

The beneficiary schools are Swedru Senior High School, Nyakrom Senior High School, Obrachire Senior High School and Gomoa Senior High Technical School at Dawurampong.

The rest are Breman Asikuma Senior High School, Assin Manso Senior High School and Obiri Yeboah Senior High School at Assin Foso.  Each School received five computers and a printer.  President Kufuor asked the authorities of the beneficiary schools to use the computers in the teaching of ICT to help students acquire skills in that discipline.  The Chief Executive of Ghana Cocoa Board, Isaac Osei, said CoCoBod is presenting 100 computers to some schools, in the cocoa growing areas  in the country.  He said it is the organisation's complementary role to the government's policy of human resource development.

The Headmaster of Swedru Senior High School, Ebenezer Tekyi Osam, on behalf of the recipients, thanked President Kufuor and CocoBod for their gesture and promised to use the items for their intended purpose.  He appealed to philanthropists and benevolent organisations to continue assisting the schools to enable them give off their bests in teaching and learning.
