Report early warning signals to prevent conflicts - Alhaji Idris

Tamale, June 25, GNA - District Coordinators of the National Youth Employment Programme (NYEP) in the Northern Region, have been urged to monitor and report early warning conflict signals to the security personnel to help avert them.
Alhaji Mustapha Ali Idris, Northern Regional Minister, made the call in Tamale on Tuesday when he presented furniture and office equipment to NYEP District Coordinators in the Region.
The items included writing desks, chairs, television sets and refrigerators.
The Regional Minister noted that the coordinators work very hard in the communities and should therefore served as peace advocates and report any imminent conflict to the appropriate institutions for the necessary action.
He said the three Northern Regions, the poorest out of the 10 regions, needed accelerated development to bridge the north-south gap, but noted that conflicts were hampering government's efforts at bringing development to the area.
Alhaji Idris said: "As coordinators, your role should include working to transform your Districts. Conflict prevention is one way of sending positive signals about your District".
Mr Thomas Wejong, Northern Regional Coordinator of the NYEP, warned that any coordinator, who would use the items for personal benefit instead of the intended purpose, would be dismissed.
