Five policemen injured during attack at Subri junction

Bibiani, (W/R), June 21, GNA – Five policemen from the Bibiani police station were injured when a mob from the Sefwi Subri Junction in the Western Region attacked them while rescuing an alleged murder suspect from being lynched.
The policemen were dispatched to the town when they got information that one Kwabena Charles, whom the people suspected to have murdered an 11-year-old pupil of the local Anglican Primary School, Kwame Peter, was being pursued by a mob.
Assistant Superintendent of Police Sampson Appiah Anane, Bibiani Police Commander, told the GNA that police had information that the deceased had been murdered for ritual purposes.
He said the police detected the deceased neck was strangled before his blood was sucked.
Mr Anane said the father of the deceased, Mr Kwadwo Nyame, alleged that he saw his younger brother, Charles, with the boy on that day and that he suspected he had killed the boy for ritual purposes.
He said on Thursday when Charles returned to Subri Junction from Kumasi the deceased's father mobilized the youth in the town to lynch him.
Mr Anane said when the police got information that Charles had been taken hostage, a detachment was detailed to rescue him but when the mob saw the police they turned against them and threw stones and other missiles resulting in the injury of five of them.
He said the police saved Charles from the mob and took him to the Bibiani police station where he was placed in custody.
Mr Anane said a BMW saloon car belonging to Charles was burnt to ashes.
He said no arrest had been made.
