Officials of the Environmental Health
Division of the Nkoranza South District, has waged war against livestock
keepers who allow their animals to stray in the streets of area.
The move is also to deal with food vendors as well as “chop” and
drinking bar owners operating without health certificates.
Mr Daniel Agyarko, the District Environmental Health Division Officer,
told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) at Nkoranza that, the decision was to
help promote environmental sanitation so as to check the outbreak of
diseases.
He said although officers from the division had been educating the
people to keep their environment clean, some of them had refused to
adhere to the advice.
Mr Agyarko said the Division would arrest food vendors who had not
obtained medical certificates to face the full rigours of the law.
He said that the Nkoranza Magistrate Court had already sentenced three
persons to a fine of GH¢100 each and would go to prison for six months
in default for various environmental offences.
